The job description
micro1 is engaging Military Legal Advisors to contribute to a customer's project focused on evaluating and defining lawful/unlawful boundary cases within the defense and international law domains. In this role, you'll apply your expertise to help train next-generation AI systems. Your work will shape how models learn, reason, and perform through high-quality, real-world input. No prior experience in AI is required — your domain knowledge is what matters.
Scope of Work
- Develop detailed boundary scenarios regarding lawful policy review and the constraints of military support.
- Assess and validate the legal defensibility of taxonomy boundaries, ensuring accurate application of LOAC and international law.
- Analyze and grade model responses for soundness of legal reasoning, clarity of limitations, and capacity to address legal uncertainty.
- Identify and flag instances where the model unduly refuses to engage with legitimate policy or legal questions.
- Contribute written and verbal feedback reflecting authoritative analysis and clear communication.
- Collaborate with other subject-matter experts to ensure rigorous review and consensus on disputed cases.
Preferred Qualifications
- Background as a Judge Advocate (JAG) or substantial experience in international humanitarian law and the law of armed conflict (LOAC).
- Fluency in rules of engagement (ROE) and understanding of lawful boundaries in military and surveillance operations.
- Experience advising on operational legal matters in real-world military or governmental contexts.
- Proven ability to communicate complex legal concepts in both written and verbal formats.
- Demonstrated skill in policy review, case differentiation, and legal uncertainty reasoning.
- Teaching, consulting, or advisory experience in military-legal or international-law contexts.
- Familiarity with AI governance, ethics, or prior work on AI-related legal frameworks (nice to have).
