The job description

About the Role

What if your sharp ear for spoken Brazilian Portuguese could directly shape how AI understands and processes one of the world's most widely spoken languages? We're looking for detail-oriented transcriptionists to produce accurate, high-quality transcriptions of spoken audio — helping build the datasets that teach AI systems how real people actually talk.

This is hands-on, meaningful work that goes beyond simple dictation. You'll navigate real-world audio featuring crosstalk, multiple speakers, filled pauses, background noise, and natural conversational nuance. Your ability to capture what's actually being said — with precision and consistency — is what makes this role essential.

This is a fully remote, flexible contract role. No prior AI experience needed — just native-level Brazilian Portuguese, strong listening skills, and a commitment to following detailed guidelines.

What You'll Do

  • Listen to spoken audio recordings in Brazilian Portuguese and produce accurate, detailed transcriptions
  • Handle challenging audio scenarios including overlapping speakers, background noise, filled pauses (e.g., "é...", "tipo..."), and informal speech
  • Identify and differentiate between multiple speakers within a single recording
  • Follow detailed style and formatting guidelines with precision and consistency
  • Apply transcription conventions for non-verbal sounds, inaudible segments, and other annotation markers
  • Maintain quality and accuracy standards across high volumes of audio content
  • Flag ambiguous or problematic audio segments with clear, structured notes
  • Work independently and asynchronously — fully on your own schedule

Who You Are

  • Native Brazilian Portuguese speaker with an instinctive ear for natural speech patterns, regional accents, and colloquial expressions
  • Exceptional listening skills — you catch the words others miss
  • Detail-oriented and methodical, with the patience to work through difficult audio
  • Comfortable following and consistently applying detailed transcription style guides
  • Strong written communication skills in Portuguese
  • Self-motivated and reliable when working independently
  • Fast and accurate typist

Nice to Have

  • Professional experience in transcription, court reporting, or stenography
  • Background in subtitle creation, closed-captioning, or audio editing
  • Linguistics education or formal training in phonetics, discourse analysis, or language documentation
  • Prior work with annotation platforms, data labeling tools, or AI training pipelines
  • Familiarity with different Brazilian regional accents and dialects
  • Experience handling multi-speaker or interview-format audio

Why Join Us

  • Work on cutting-edge AI projects alongside leading research labs
  • Fully remote and flexible — work when and where it suits you
  • Freelance autonomy with the structure of meaningful, task-based work
  • Contribute to AI development that directly improves how technology understands spoken Brazilian Portuguese
  • Sharpen your transcription and linguistic skills on diverse, real-world audio
  • Potential for ongoing work and contract extension as new projects launch
