The job description
Join a leading AI lab's cutting-edge GenAI team to be at the core of the AI revolution, where your expertise fuels the development of the most advanced generative AI models.
1\. Overview
Join a leading AI lab's cutting-edge GenAI team and help build foundational AI models from the ground up. We're seeking a talented Senior Motion Designer and Creative Technologist with deep, hands-on motion graphics and code-driven animation experience to bring real motion design judgment and elevate the quality of our AI training data. This is a full-time commitment of 40 hours per week.
This is a W-2 employment position with Cincinnatus LLC, with the opportunity to be placed at a leading AI Lab as part of their extended workforce.
2\. Key Responsibilities
- Guide research teams to close knowledge gaps and improve AI model performance in motion design, kinetic typography, animated overlays and code-driven video.
- Design challenging, real-world motion design tasks and produce reference deliverables in editable source formats, such as After Effects projects and code-based animations built with tools like Remotion, Canvas, SVG or Three.js.
- Evaluate AI-generated motion graphics and video and give clear, written feedback, catching problems with timing, easing, typographic hierarchy, safe areas, tracking and sync.
- Develop guidelines, rubrics and quality checks for motion design, including scripted technical checks on rendered output.
- Collaborate with other subject matter experts to ensure consistency and accuracy in training data.
3\. Core Qualifications
- 5+ years of shipped motion design work for agencies, motion studios, post houses, broadcast design teams or in-house brand teams, for example Buck, Giant Ant, Oddfellows, The Mill, Golden Wolf, ManvsMachine, Trollback, Wieden+Kennedy, R/GA or an equivalent in-house brand studio. Crowd rating, template marketplaces and student work do not count.
- Expert After Effects skills including expressions, kinetic typography, 2.5D parallax and tracked composites, with Cinema 4D or Blender for 3D elements.
- Shipped code-driven motion in at least one of Remotion, HTML5 Canvas, SVG animation, Three.js or WebGL, GSAP, p5.js, TouchDesigner or Houdini, or FFmpeg-scripted rendering, where your code produced or drove a delivered video, overlay or graphics package.
- Working JavaScript or TypeScript, or Python, well enough to write and debug your own render and animation code and to read someone else's.
- Fluency with editable source files and delivery formats: .aep and .mogrt, .c4d or .blend, Lottie .json, .riv, SVG, Git repositories with render scripts, ProRes and H.264 masters in 16:9, 1:1, 9:16 and 4:5.
- Command-line FFmpeg for encoding, concatenation, overlays, frame extraction and probing duration, frame rate and audio.
- Hands-on use of generative video and image tools in professional work, for example Runway, Kling, Luma, Midjourney or ComfyUI, the ability to generate your own comparison samples, and the judgment to tell a strong result from a plausible-looking weak one.
- A public portfolio or reel of shipped work, plus a public code sample that renders or animates video; you will be asked to walk through both.
- Ability to engage reliably for at least 40 hours/week during weekdays.
- Strong written communication skills and the ability to explain creative decisions clearly.
