The job description
We are looking for PhD-qualified biology experts to contribute their scientific expertise to a short-term annotation project supporting a leading AI lab.
Expert annotation helps AI researchers develop and evaluate how models handle specialized scientific information. This project offers an opportunity to apply your biology background to carefully reviewing and annotating content, using your subject-matter judgment to support accurate, high-quality work.
What you’ll do
- Complete biology-related annotation tasks in your area of expertise, following the project guidelines.
- Apply scientific reasoning and attention to detail when reviewing content. Depending on the assignment, this may include assessing accuracy, identifying unclear statements or flagging potential errors.
- Use a consistent approach to the annotation criteria and flag questions or ambiguities that need clarification.
Who should apply
- A completed PhD in biology or a related biological discipline.
- Experience working in any field of biology, through research, professional work or both.
- Careful scientific judgment and the ability to explain biology concepts clearly.
- Availability to start within the next two weeks.
Applicants from all biology subfields are welcome. Examples include molecular and cell biology, genetics and genomics, microbiology, biochemistry, immunology, neuroscience, ecology and evolutionary biology. These are illustrative examples, not a restricted list of specialties.
Project commitment
The initial scope is 20 hours of annotation per contractor, on average around 10 hours per week over two weeks.
Compensation
$40–90 USD per hour. Final rate depends on qualifications, expertise, experience and location.
